In “ What kinds of treatment/pain relief can be done about ligament pain? ” Caro writes:
I have had pain in the upper crease of my right leg that I believe is ligament pain… I just am wondering if there is something that I can do to get some relief. I can’t move it into a lot of different positions, not even when I am standing up or walking. I have to keep it pretty straight and refrain from twisting it at all.
Now where there is persistent pain that cannot be gently addressed, it can obviously be necessary to seek medical attention, however I am personally a fan of solutions that don’t involve drugs or rely heavily on professional intervention wherever possible. In a case where motion is severely limited such as this, attention is king. It’s necessary to work with the smallest movements and pay VERY close attention to what can be felt. When I was healing my broken ankle this way, the trick was to move the joint to the degrees that I could WITHOUT feeling any pain, meaning ONLY what was painless. By KEEPING it moving continuously within the comfortable range of motion I experienced incredible relief and accelerated healing.
Generally I would say that about 15 minutes of pain free movement 2-3 times a day should support a speedy recovery, but to be honest when I was doing this for my ankle AND my wrist the joints would start feeling so good by 15 minutes that I would just keep going cause I liked it so much. Remember the trick here is that it doesn’t matter how tiny the movement is, as long as you are sensitive to it and you are staying within the comfort range, continued use of that range will cause it to expand.
